The Georgia United Methodist Foundation Board of Trustees met in Peachtree Corners on May 6, 2026, to review the year’s progress, recognize outgoing members, and elect the Class of 2029 board nominees. The board recognized Chuck Bachman for his leadership as Board Chair, a role which Bill Daniel will assume in July. Additionally, three board members completed their terms, including Robert Beckum, Lisa White, and Rev. Will Zant.

Though there are upcoming changes, the board’s function and purpose remain constant. It provides governance for the Foundation whose sole purpose is to support and extend the ministry of our church partners. Board members serve as active advocates, reinforcing a commitment to strengthening churches through faith-based financial stewardship, and ensuring churches are well-resourced to carry out their missions. How does the Board carry this out? Hear from some of its members about what it looks like:

A Mission-Driven Approach to Stewardship

Serving on the Foundation board is about more than oversight; it is an act of ministry that empowers congregations, says current board member and Secretary Brittney Haynes. “Financial empowerment is key for churches and ministries to thrive,” Haynes notes. “Healthy, well-resourced churches are positioned to maximize their impact and sustain the important missions God has entrusted them.”

Building Relationships and Providing Stability

The Foundation’s strength lies in its trust-based relationships, notes Haynes, who utilizes her background in public relations to connect with clients. Her role involves “listening well, building trust, and serving as the steady bridge between the Foundation’s capabilities and the churches and ministries we are called to support.”

This sentiment is shared by Rev. Dr. Millie Kim of Mountain Park UMC, who trusts the Foundation because it goes beyond traditional banking. “It creates essential systems, including education, capital access, and mentorship that help churches build stable financial futures.”

Firsthand Impact and Advocacy

Incoming Board Chair, Bill Daniel has seen the tangible benefits firsthand. “I’ve seen the tremendous impact the Foundation has had in the life of congregations both big and small,” Daniel shares. At his home church in Savannah, Daniel witnessed the “invaluable guidance of the Foundation in helping my own church create an endowment that has experienced wonderful growth!”

With the election of the Class of 2029, the Foundation continues to curate a dedicated team to serve a three-year term, contributing to key areas like loan, finance, and investment committees. The new slate of members will be confirmed and announced in July by incoming Board Chair Bill Daniel.

As Foundation President and CEO Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Coppedge-Henley notes, service on the Board of Trustees is about “becoming an important part of a ministry that serves Georgia churches and related institutions with historic Wesleyan roots,” ensuring that the Foundation continues to empower churches throughout 2026 and beyond.
