Gerry and Jackie Perry have been supporters of higher education since Gerry’s own education was made possible by a Methodist-funded scholarship that enabled him to pursue his degree at Reinhardt College. Thinking a college degree was all but unattainable, Gerry’s pastor encouraged him to apply and helped him to find scholarships that made it possible. Gerry worked throughout his education, taking care of animals and working in the school’s cafeteria to make ends meet. It was at Reinhardt that Gerry met Jackie, his future wife. Both students were strong Methodists with a passion for education and it was not long before the two were married.
Gerry’s degree allowed him to enjoy a long career as a railroad inspector, while his wife Jackie devoted her life to teaching and school administration. After 62 wonderful years of marriage, Gerry passed away in November of 2024.
Before he passed, the couple set up a scholarship endowment fund with the Foundation meant to help students just like they had been. The scholarship endowment has already assisted 31 students pursue higher education and will continue to do so for many years to come.
The Foundation wants to celebrate this great legacy, made possible by generosity of spirit and thoughtful, long term planning.
